Recently I've been obsessed with the differences between confidence and self-confidence.
With confidence you look to your past experiences for evidence that you can do something and do it well.
I feel very confident brushing my teeth, pouring a glass of water, driving a car or riding a horse because I have done those things many times before. I have a lot of evidence that supports feeling confident in those areas.
Self-confidence on the other hand is INTERNAL. It’s based on the belief you have about yourself. Self-confidence is an emotion that you generate without any history to back it up or external evidence.
So why does this matter?
Because having a strong belief about yourself and your abilities without evidence to back it up will get you closer to achieving your goals. It will propel you forward as you build your business and continue to...
Why is making massive changes in our lives hard to sustain?
We are wired to stay safe. We are wired to survive.
When our “normal” is eating crappy food and drinking too much alcohol, we feel safe. There's a comfort in making those choices because it's what we do on a regular basis.
Then there comes a time when we desperately want to make changes in our lives, but our brain freaks out because we’re stepping outside our safety zone. Maybe it’s losing weight, or quitting smoking, or starting your own business, or cutting back on alcohol, or quitting your job… it’s natural for us to RESIST change.
Intellectually we know making these changes are good for us. We know incorporating healthier lifestyle choices into our lives will in fact help us to survive and live longer… but our brain doesn’t see it that way. All it sees is that we have felt safe eating crappy food and drinking too much wine, so making these changes must be a bad thing....
What does that mean to you?
I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately as I’ve been shifting my energy and how I spend my days. Normally my days are time blocked from the moment I wake up to the moment my head hits the pillow at night. Meetings, sessions with clients, working out, creating programs, updating websites, meditating, working with my staff, eating, professional development, webinars, social media, writing, shooting videos, going live, family and domestic responsibilities.... ALL the things and more squeezed into a very short day.
